Join the SSO for our Virtual Concert Hall Debut! The on-line World Premiere of ‘Darkness Into Light’, a live SSO concert filmed by Ballinran Entertainment.

SSO Principal Conductor and Music Director William Rowson will join us to introduce the program.

This Concert features the Stratford Symphony Orchestra with guest artist Ji Won Baxter, the 2017 Emerging Artist Concerto Competition winner and current SSO violinist, who performs Kabalevsky’s sprightly Violin Concerto. The concert is completed by a set of Beethoven’s masterworks: The Coriolan Overture and Symphony No.7.

When Ballinran Entertainment decided to film this concert, no one imagined the situation we would be in today, nor that the title of the concert ‘Darkness Into Light’ would carry so much meaning.

The concert’s title was chosen because the works being performed were each inspired and informed by turbulent times. Today, we are in our own period of darkness – turbulent and uncertain times, which we know will give way to light in the form of a bright and radiant future.

“I wish you music to help with the burdens of life, and to help you release your happiness to others.”
-Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)

About the SSO:

Few North American cities of Stratford’s size can boast a symphony orchestra as accomplished as the Stratford Symphony Orchestra.

Since its founding in 2004, the SSO has presented an annual season of live performances of classical and contemporary music. The SSO has become an integral part of the region’s arts community, collaborating with other cultural and educational organizations and participating in community events.

Now in its fifteenth season, the SSO has impressed audiences with its virtuosity and variety of musical offerings. Nothing compares with live music, delivered with the joy, passion and skill that talented musicians bring directly to their audience. Concert after concert, audiences have given standing ovations to tell the orchestra how much they appreciate the music and the musicians.

Through its Emerging Artists Concerto Competition, the SSO puts the talents of young musicians on public display. Each year aspiring local and area artists compete for the opportunity to appear with the Symphony as a featured soloist. Winners have gone on to rewarding careers in music performance.

The SSO also presents an annual series of Cushion Concerts, offering young people an up-close look at the musicians and the instruments of the orchestra, in partnership with the Stratford Public Library.

Behind the scenes, a board of directors and dozens of skilled and dedicated volunteers support all aspects of the SSO’s operations. Funding support for the Orchestra comes from ticket and subscription sales, donations, fundraising events and sponsorships.
